I'm a princess!

Isla ran to the door this afternoon yelling "Daddy! Daddy! I'm a Princess!" Grandma got her a pink princess dress and she played dress up in it all afternoon. I got some great pictures! Super Isla, Super Momma! Isla's a big Super Why fan and goes around saying Super Isla, Super Momma, Super Daddy..... Last week was one of those weeks that everything seemed to go wrong, be off, and just be generally disagreeable. I was worried about the weekend--P had a seminar in St. Louis. We were going up Friday night to have dinner with my college roommate, then I'd take him downtown early Saturday morning, go back to the hotel, meet a friend later in the day, then pick him up after his seminar. I hate driving downtown. And there was a chance of storms. And there was a ballgame downtown. We got up to a beautiful day. I decided we wouldn't try to go back to the hotel, instead we'd take advantage of the wonderful weather while it lasted. We dropped P off across from the arch, went to Soulard Market, then headed to the zoo. We found out that K wasn't feeling well and wouldn't get to meet up with us. We stayed at the zoo for five hours. Yes, five. hours. I felt like Super Momma. And baby girl was definitely Super Isla! We left the zoo with her asleep in her stroller. I went back downtown even though P's seminar still had an hour to go. We found a place to park close to the hotel where he was, across the street from some shops, and just up from the arch. I got us something to drink and Isla an ice cream sandwich and as we were walking to the arch, we heard the fireworks that the Cardinals game was over. Perfect timing to keep out of ballgame traffic! Isla loved sitting at the base of the arch watching frisbee players. It was a gorgeous day and people were taking full advantage of it after the weather forecast had sounded so threatening. Suddenly we felt raindrops and everyone got up to leave the park. I walked back up to the line of shops in the sprinkles. As soon as we walked into a souvenir shop, it started pouring. And hailing. And lightning. And the winds got tremendously strong. And I smelled a stinky diaper. We waited out the storm in the souvenir shop--I bought a Cardinals tshirt. We found out later that a few blocks over from where we were a beer garden tent was destroyed by the winds, killing someone and injurying several others. One hundred people required medical attention. The storm eased and P let me know his seminar wrapped up early. He walked to us in the rain, but the storm seemingly had passed. It was still raining so we went into a restaurant next to the souvenir shop for dinner. By the time we were done, the rain had stopped. What a day! Thank God for perfect timing all day! Isla and I planted a couple pots of petunias recently. A couple days later, she pointed to them and said "tunias?" Yes baby, those are petunias. As we walked into the gym a few minutes later, she pointed to pots of impatiens and said "p'tunias." No baby, those aren't petunias. When we left, she pointed to them "not p'tunias." Later when we went into Wal-Mart, she argued with me about whether their flowers were petunias or not. Isla's language skills amaze me. She's not only putting words into sentences, she's putting sentences together. "Momma, help me up. I can't reach it." Here are some of my favorite pictures from today with the princess dress. My mom and I cut it off, but it was still too long. I'll cut it off more evenly (when the child is not wearing it!) and see if we can get it hemmed.

So sweet!

Isla closed a book today and my thumb was in it. When I said ouch, she said "I sorry, momma." Then she leaned over and kissed my thumb. So sweet.
